EMsella | Improve Bladder Retention

EMsella is a nonsurgical procedure capable of improving symptoms of urinary incontinence. Treatments help people struggling with both Urge Incontinence and Stress Incontinence. EMsella is entirely non-invasive without risks or pain. Patients remain comfortably clothed during treatments. Nicknamed the “Kegel-throne,” the ergonomically made chair stimulates the pelvic floor. Treatments incorporate electromagnetic energy. One treatment stimulates the equivalent of 11,000 Kegels in 30-minutes. It strengthens the muscles responsible for controlling urinary retention, making it perfect for women who need more bladder control without surgery.

Genesis Health & Wellness is a leading provider of successful EMsella treatments in Georgia. To learn more about the popular nonsurgical incontinence treatment by scheduling a free consultation. Call us at (229) 585-0661 to learn more.

What Causes Urinary Incontinence?

Bladder retention is a concern for many women. It can significantly hinder a person’s quality of life more than one would think. Urination requires muscles to both contracts or tighten and relax. The muscles are controlled by nerves responsible for sending signals telling the tissues to contract and relax. As a result, urine is pushed out of the bladder and down into the urethra via muscle contractions. During this, the sphincter muscles in the urethra relax and allow it to open, releasing urine.

Urinary incontinence, or UI, occurs when the muscles that retain and release urine become damaged. The damage causes the nerve signals to become overactive. For some, UI occurs after vaginal childbirth. It can also be due to aging and menopause.

Understanding the Two Types of Urinary Incontinence

There are two main types of UI: Stress Incontinence and Urge Incontinence.

Stress Incontinence or Stress UI is the urinary leakage caused by physical movement or exertion. Women experience urinary leakage almost daily, mostly when they sneeze, jump, laugh, or cough. Stress UI is the most common form of incontinence. It usually results from vaginal childbirth. Menopause is also another leading cause.

This type of UI results when muscles that hold up the bladder stretch or become weakened. The breakdown in supporting tissue allows the bladder to press down on the sphincter muscles of the urethra. When the bladder’s weight is combined with physical exertion from things like jumping or coughing, the urethra muscles open. When this occurs, it allows urine to leak out.

The best way to improve Stress Incontinence is to strengthen the muscles responsible for holding up the bladder. Kegel exercises are among the most effective ways to rebuild and strengthen those tissues.

Urge Incontinence or Urge UI is a sudden need to urinate commonly followed by involuntary urination. This UI occurs when the nerve signals that tell muscles to contract or relax misfire. As a result, urge UI causes an overactive bladder to overpower the sphincter muscles in the urethra.

What are Kegels?

Kegels are a great way to improve UI. However, most people may wonder what a Kegel is and how it helps improve bladder retention. Kegels consist of voluntary muscle exercises that contract and relax the muscles of the pelvic floor. They work much like other forms of manual strength-building exercises like crunches or lunges—Kegels contract the muscles of the vaginal floor to put tension on the tissues. To adapt to this tension, the body creates new fibers and strengthens the existing muscles.

How Does EMsella Work?

EMsella works by improving incontinence through the strengthening of the muscles that support the bladder. During treatments, the patient sits on an ergonomic chair. The chair is entirely comfortable. They can remain fully clothed throughout the duration of the treatment. This chair emits High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy stimulating powerful contractions in the pelvic floor. The neurons force the muscles to contract and tighten rapidly, inducing countless Kegels.

Unlike manual Kegels, the contractions during treatments are much more potent. For example, one 30-minute EMsella treatment induces more than 11,000 supramaximal Kegels. Those powerful contractions are scientifically proven to strengthen the pelvic floor tissues and tighten the muscles of the vaginal wall. As a result, Kegels both increase urinary retention and improve vaginal laxity.

EMsella Results*

Patients notice EMsella results quickly. Most see an improvement after just one treatment. However, patients should follow a treatment schedule of 6 sessions spaced 2 to 3 days apart for the most optimal results. As with any treatment, individual experiences may vary.*
